Georg Friedrich Harpprecht

Georg Friedrich Harpprecht (born December 10, 1676 in Tübingen ; † May 10, 1754 ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

Georg Friedrich Harpprecht was born on December 10, 1676 in Tübingen as the son of Ferdinand Christoph Harpprecht , was educated at a grammar school in his hometown and moved to the University of Tübingen to study. He received his doctorate in both rights in 1699 and then worked as a court lawyer . He went on a trip to Berlin with his uncle Mauritius David , where he got to know scholars and institutions of several Central German universities. In 1704 he was appointed court assessor and ducal councilor in Tübingen . Württemberg offered him a position as a consultant in 1717 , he was also asked to teach at the University of Gießen , and the office of Chancellor of the University of Gießen was to be transferred to him. But he refused. Harpprecht received the full professorship for pandects at the University of Tübingen in January 1722.

Harpprecht, who has been described as an avid lecturer, was held in high regard by his audience. In 1742, however, he gave up the professorship in order to devote himself fully to science. He dealt particularly with civil law . Harpprecht died on May 10, 1754.

Harpprecht came from a legal family in Württemberg. Their progenitor Johannes Christoph Harpprecht was the son of the farmer of the same name. Stephan Christoph Harpprecht von Harpprechtstein and Johann Christoph Harpprecht descend from his son Christoph . He had two known sons, Mauritius David Harpprecht (father Johann Heinrich Freiherr von Harpprechts ) and Ferdinand Christoph Harpprecht , father of Georg Friedrich.

Georg Friedrich's brother was the mayor of Tübingen, Johannes Harpprecht , whose son was Christian Ferdinand Harpprecht . Christoph Friedrich Harpprecht was the only son of Georg Friedrich and came from his marriage to a professor's daughter.
