Georg Friedrich Kinkelin

Georg Friedrich Kinkelin (born July 15, 1836 in Lindau (Lake Constance) , † August 13, 1913 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German teacher, geologist , paleobotanist and paleontologist . Its botanical author's abbreviation is “ Kink. ".

Life

Friedrich Kinkelin studied in Berlin and Munich and passed the state examination in nature description and chemistry in 1861. During his studies he became a member of the Algovia fraternity , whose tradition was later continued by the Arminia Munich fraternity . After completing his studies, he first became a teacher of chemistry in Lindau and, after further training at the technical laboratory and the polytechnic in Zurich, took over the management of a paint factory in Berlin from 1863 to 1866. In 1867 he was a teacher in Zofingen / Aargau and from 1873 to 1906 in Frankfurt am Main. His doctorate as Dr. phil. took place in Basel in 1874. In 1873 Georg Friedrich Kinkelin became a member of the Senckenberg Natural Research Society . From 1884 until his death he was head of the geology / paleontology section at the Senckenberg Museum.

On August 14, 1889 ( matriculation no. 2842 ) he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

In 1894 he was awarded the title of professor for the extensive teaching he began in 1882.

In 1893 and 1908 he received the Reinach Prize of the Senckenberg Natural Research Society , donated by Albert von Reinach .

Oskar Boettger named the snake Rhadinaea kinkelini Boettger in his honor in 1898.
