Career

As a player

Gailer began his career in 1989 with the ECD Sauerland , with whom he was then active in the second highest German division, the 2nd Bundesliga . There he stayed only one season, however, and in the summer of 1990 he joined the then first division club EC Hedos Munich, where he was also under contract for one season. The striker played 39 games in Munich and scored a scorer point. For the 1991/92 season , those responsible at EHC Essen-West were able to convince him of a commitment in the Ruhr area .

In the following years he went on the ice for the EHC for three years, before he decided to switch to Neusser EV , which he left after a few weeks and six appearances in the 1st League North. He then wore the jersey of the Iserlohner EC in the second highest German league at the time, the 1st Bundesliga. At the IEC, Gailer had reached the peak of his career and scored 113 points for the Sauerland team in a total of 132 league appearances . During the season 1998/99 he left the Iserlohner EC and joined the league competitor EHC Braunlage . Further career stations in the following years were Moskitos Essen, EHC Freiburg and SC Riessersee , where he ended his active ice hockey career in 2004 at the age of 32.

As a trainer

After Gailer ended his career as a professional ice hockey player, he coached the first senior team of the regional league club EHC Dortmund in 2007. At that time, he was temporarily replacing head coach Markus Scheffold, who had recently been dismissed. As a result, he reached second place with the Elchen in the Regionalliga Cup round. Gailer, who was previously active as a coach in the Dortmund youth team, returned to the youth team of the EHC at the end of the 2006/07 season , where he has been responsible for the junior team in the Bundesliga since then.
