Georg Geissler

Georg Geißler (born September 22, 1902 in Eberstadt ; † April 1, 1980 in Hamburg ) was a German educator .

After attending the Eberstadt elementary school from 1908 to 1916, he completed the teachers' seminar and taught in Sprendlingen from 1924/25 . From 1925 to 1929 he studied philosophy, history, pedagogy and psychology in Frankfurt am Main and Göttingen until he received his doctorate with Herman Nohl in September 1929. His contribution to the autonomy of pedagogy drew a line from Rousseau as the advocate of childhood against the influence of the world up to the present of the humanities pedagogy, which is about the "human education".

Then he was appointed assistant to Wilhelm Flitner in Hamburg and in 1931 as a lecturer at the Pedagogical Academy in Halle (Saale) . With their partial dismantling in 1932, he lost the job again and became headmaster of a school. He worked as a psychologist in the Air Force's military aptitude test. In 1947 he was employed at the Hessian Pedagogical Institute Darmstadt-Jugenheim and in 1950 ao. Professor, but appointed to Hamburg in the same year.

Geissler taught from 1950 to 1969 as a full professor for educational science at the University of Hamburg . He was chairman of the school committee of the West German Rectors' Conference from 1961–1964. In teacher training , he advocated university training for primary school teachers .
