Georg Heinrich Claussen (also Claußen) (born December 5, 1828 in Bremen , † May 5, 1912 in Bremen) was a German businessman and director of the Sparkasse Bremen .

biography

Claussen was the son of a Bremen merchant. He worked abroad for a long time, particularly in the USA . In Bremen he became an authorized signatory in 1853 and in 1854 a partner in the shipping company and the import company of his uncle Dietrich Albers. From 1862 the company was called Albers & Claussen .

In 1875 he became director of the Sparkasse Bremen together with B. Kirchner . During this early days there was an upturn in the economy, which led to an increase in the Sparkasse. On the basis of the new commercial code , Claussen carried out a reorganization of the Sparkasse, which changed from a stock corporation to an institution under public law . He also set up a foundation for employee pensions, which in 1923 became the pension fund.

In 1887 he was also a co-founder and then until 1900 chairman of the non-profit Bremer Bauverein , a forerunner of the building society of the Sparkasse in Bremen founded in 1929 . This marked a pioneering step in the field of residential construction in Bremen. By 1891 the building association had built 300 houses. The type of house developed by the association was the small Bremen house . Claussen was also active in the Bremen gymnastics club. In 1898 he retired as a board member of the Sparkasse.
