Georg Jung (* 11. June 1963 in Ensheim ) is a German politician of the CDU . He was Lord Mayor of the Mittelstadt St. Ingbert .

education

After primary school, Jung attended the Leibniz Gymnasium in St. Ingbert from 1973 , where he graduated from high school in 1982. He then studied law at the Universities of Regensburg and Freiburg im Breisgau until 1988 and graduated with the first state examination in law. He completed his legal clerkship from 1989 to 1992 with the second state examination.

Profession and Politics

From 1992 to 1996 he acted as head of department at the Thuringian Ministry for Federal and European Affairs (representing the state of Thuringia at the federal level). There he was responsible for federal affairs and fundamental questions in the areas of the environment, nature conservation, agriculture and forestry, veterinary affairs. From October 1999 he was head of the ministerial office in the Ministry for the Environment of Saarland. From August 1, 2002 to December 31, 2002, Jung headed the “Coordination Office for Funding Programs” in the Ministry of the Environment. From January 1st, 2003 to July 4th, 2004 he was the 1st full-time alderman of the city of St. Ingbert with the official title of mayor, until he was appointed mayor of the city of St. Ingbert on July 5th.

After eight years as Lord Mayor, Jung was unable to achieve re-election. In a runoff election on November 6, 2011, he was defeated by his opponent Hans Wagner with 48:52 percent of the vote. Jung gave up his position on July 5, 2012 to his successor.

On July 11, 2014, Jung was sentenced by the Saarbrücken regional court to a fine of 300 daily rates of 50 euros each for taking advantage in four cases and for breach of trust. The conviction for accepting benefits was based on the fact that Jung, during his time as Lord Mayor for the Association for the Promotion of Social and Cultural Issues in the Mittelstadt St. Ingbert, donated 455,000 euros from companies in contact with the city administration from 2007 to 2011 had raised. The allegation of infidelity was based on the commissioning of a law firm with the preparation of an expert opinion on behalf of the Erich Ferdinand Bläse Foundation for Welfare for a fee of around 30,000 euros, which came to the conclusion that his appointment as chairman of the foundation had been made by a Change of statutes legal even after being voted out as Lord Mayor.

On February 28, 2018, a report in the Saarbrücker Zeitung announced that a disciplinary complaint had been filed against Jung at the Saarland Administrative Court because of his criminal conviction. The plaintiff is the State Administration Office of Saarland as the responsible disciplinary authority. The lawsuit aims to revoke Jung's pension entitlements. The start of the proceedings is not expected before 2019.

Personal

Jung is a Roman Catholic . He is married to the architect Doris Dietrich-Jung. The couple has two sons.
