Georg Kinsky

Georg Ludwig Kinsky (born September 29, 1882 in Marienwerder , West Prussia , † April 7, 1951 in Berlin ) was a German musicologist .

Life

Kinsky began his career as an antiquarian and in 1908 became Albert Kopfermann's assistant at the Prussian State Library in Berlin. Subsequently, Kinsky was a private lecturer in musicology at the University of Cologne and curator at the Wilhelm Heyer Museum of Music History. Kinsky was a recognized specialist in musical instruments and their history, and he also wrote the catalog for the Museum Heyer (1910–1916). He is also the author of a number of scientific articles. The list of works by Ludwig van Beethoven completed by Hans Halm is based on this . As the son of a Jewish merchant, Kinsky was subjected to harassment by the National Socialists, which led to the inevitable termination of his academic career and the loss of his extensive library and all of his scientific supplies.
