Georg Krausch (born July 23, 1961 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German physicist and university professor. He has been President of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since 2007 .

Life

From 1982 to 1988 he studied physics at the University of Konstanz . After completing his doctorate in experimental physics in 1992 in the group around Günter Schatz, in which the method of disturbed γγ angle correlation (PAC) was successfully used to investigate semiconductor surfaces for the first time, he switched to Edward J.'s group for a year. Kramer to the Department for Materials Science and Engineering at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. There he began investigations on thin polymer films and polymer surfaces. In 1995 he completed his habilitation in the group of Jürgen Mlynek at the University of Konstanz in experimental physics and in 1996 became professor of physical chemistry at theLudwig Maximilians University of Munich . Krausch spent several research stays at the Weizmann Institute of Science (Rehovot, Israel) and at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (Brookhaven, USA). In 1998 he moved to the University of Bayreuth , where he held a chair for physical chemistry. From 2003 to 2007 he was Vice President for Research and Young Scientists at the University of Bayreuth.

Georg Krausch has been President of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz since 2007 . On December 8, 2017, the Senate of Johannes Gutenberg University elected Krausch early for a third term from April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2025.

Scientific work

Krausch published over 170 scientific papers, more than 170 of which are listed in the Science Citation Index . The work was cited more than 10,000 times, the h-index is 58. Krausch is a member of the German Physical Society , whose professional association for chemical physics and polymer physics he headed from 2005 to 2007. From 2002 to 2018 he was co-editor of the international trade journal POLYMER. In 2008 he was accepted as a fellow by the American Physical Society (APS) in recognition of his scientific achievements . Krausch has been a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) since 2013 and a member of the natural science class of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2020 . In 2014 he was awarded the Leibniz Medal of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz .
