Georg Krog

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Krog (born July 2, 1915 in Bergen ; † July 6, 1991 ) was a Norwegian speed skater . At the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he won the silver medal over 500 m.

As it turned out later, the three-time gold medalist, his compatriot Ivar Ballangrud , was probably stopped a second too early in this discipline, with 43.4 s compared to Krog's 43.5 s, so that Krog would clearly have conceded the gold medal. Krog's best time over 500 m is 42.0 s. At the all-round speed skating world championship in 1937, he won the discipline in 42.9 s.

Born in Bergen, Krog was a great grandson of the politician Hans Jensen Krog . He competed for the clubs Drammen Skøiteklub , Gimsøy Idrettsforening and Oslo Skøiteklub . In 1940 the lawyer was involved in the negotiations on the merger of the Norwegian Sports Association with the Workers' Sports Association. From 1961 to 1965 he was chairman of the Norwegian Skating Association. After his career as an athlete, he worked as a lawyer.
