Georg Leubuscher

Georg Leubuscher (born September 20, 1858 in Jena , † February 27, 1916 in Meiningen ) was a German physician and social reformer.

Life

Leubuscher was a son of the physician Rudolf Leubuscher († 1861), professor and director of the medical clinic in Jena. Before the wedding, the parents converted from the Jewish to the Protestant faith. Georg Leubuscher attended the Friedrich-Werdersche Gymnasium in Berlin and from 1877 studied medicine in Heidelberg , Berlin and Jena . In Heidelberg he became a member of the Corps Rhenania . After graduating as Dr. med. in Jena (1881) he qualified as a professor in 1885 for internal medicine, forensic medicine and toxicology. He received a teaching position in Jena and in 1890 became district doctor for the Grand Duchy of Weimar. In 1897 he followed a call to Meiningen, where he became head of the Georgen Hospital , lecturer in the council for medical matters in the ducal state ministry and member of the medical deputation. Leubuscher created the first comprehensive school doctor system in Germany in the Duchy of Meiningen , and reorganized community nursing throughout the Duchy through the Herzog-Georg Foundation for Nurses, of which he was a member of the board. He was involved in the construction of public baths (1905 Frauenbad in Wasungen, 1906 indoor swimming pool in Meiningen) and campaigned for the construction of school shower basins. He was an advisory member of the supervisory board of the Bad Salzungen saltworks and brine bath . In 1911 he campaigned for the construction of the Meiningen crematorium.

In July 1914, Leubuscher was retired for health reasons. When the First World War broke out, he resumed all of his work and until his death in February 1916 he was in charge of the Georgen Hospital, which was partially converted into a military hospital.

The well-known economist and social scientist Charlotte Leubuscher was his daughter. He was a member of the Jena Freemason Lodge Friedrich for serious work .

Georg Leubuscher was married to Else Vermehren, the daughter of the classical philologist Moritz Vermehren (1829-1893).
