Georg Merten

Georg Merten (born July 23, 1941 in Potsdam - Babelsberg ; † March 25, 2018 in Cologne ) was a German diplomat .

Merten studied law in Mainz , Berlin and Frankfurt . In 1968 he joined the Foreign Office and worked in Venezuela, the USA and Nigeria, among others.

In 1988 Merten became German ambassador to the People's Republic of the Congo in Brazzaville . His successor was Adolf Ederer in 1992 .

In 2006 Georg Merten received his accreditation as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Malta in Valletta as the successor to Gerhard Kunz . In 2006 Karl-Andreas Freiherr von Stenglin became his successor.

Georg Merten was buried on April 4, 2018 in the Melaten Central Cemetery in Cologne (MA No. 222).
