Georg Peter Landmann

Georg Peter Landmann (born March 11, 1905 in Basel ; † March 1, 1994 ibid) was a Swiss classical philologist , translator and high school teacher.

Life

Georg Peter Landmann was a son of the economist Julius Landmann and the philosopher Edith Landmann . His brother was the philosopher Michael Landmann . His parents were friends of Stefan George and had contact with the George Circle .

He studied Classical Philology at the University of Basel , where he received his doctorate in 1930. He worked as a grammar school teacher for Latin and Greek at the humanistic grammar school in Basel. He emerged primarily as a translator of numerous ancient works ( Homer , Thucydides ) and the Divine Comedy by Dante as well as through writings on Stefan George.
