Georg Rauss (Polish Jerzy Rauss ; * around 1695/1700 in Kronstadt , Principality of Transylvania ; † March 23 or 24, 1762 in Warsaw , Poland-Lithuania ) was a German Lutheran preacher in the Kingdom of Poland .

Life

Georg Rauss was born as a Transylvanian Saxon in Kronstadt. He later lived in Thorn in Polish Prussia . In 1720 Rauss began studying theology in Halle an der Saale and was ordained in 1728 in Brieg, Silesia.

He went to Wengrow near Warsaw to take up a preaching position, but had to leave the place again first. It was not until 1729 that he could begin his work. Since 1742 he went to neighboring Warsaw twice a year, where he looked after the local evangelical community for six weeks. Since their possibilities were very limited at this time, all services and other activities had to take place in the Prussian embassy , where Rauss also lived.

Pastor Rauss was very popular in Wengrow and the surrounding area, as he was a successful doctor (alternative practitioner) there. He died on March 23 or 24, 1762 in the Prussian embassy. He was buried in the old Protestant cemetery in Warsaw and reburied in the new Protestant cemetery in 1821.
