Georg Schmitz (painter)

Johann Georg Joseph Schmitz (born May 6, 1851 in Düsseldorf , † 1917 in Hamburg ) was a German landscape and marine painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

At the Düsseldorf Art Academy , Schmitz received his painting training from Andreas and Karl Müller and from Oswald Achenbach , in whose landscape class he stayed from 1866 to 1870. Then he stayed in Berlin for a while . From around 1876/1877 he settled in Hamburg.
