Georg Seld
Georg Seld , often also Jörg Seld (* around 1454 in Augsburg ; † 1527 there ), was a German goldsmith .
Life
Seld is probably the son of Heinrich Seld, who can be found in Augsburg as early as 1465. Georg Seld was first mentioned in the city's tax books in 1478 and was therefore also granted master craftsman's rights at this time.
From 1486 he worked for the city at the Basilica of St. Ulrich and Afra . Also for the Prince Abbey of Kempten and the Brixen Cathedral Chapter . Seld became known for the Seld Plan named after him from 1521. Seld was the main representative of Augsburg goldsmithing during the transition from High Gothic to Renaissance . His main work, the silver altar of Augsburg Cathedral , has not been preserved. However, its covering of the Ulrich Cross from 1493 was preserved.
His son was the Reich Vice Chancellor Georg Sigismund Seld .
