Helge Stefan Limburg (born October 25, 1982 in Hanover ) is a German politician and member of the Alliance 90 / The Greens in the Lower Saxony state parliament . He is the parliamentary director of his group.

School and education

Helge Limburg grew up as the son of a Lutheran pastor in Holzminden . After graduating from high school in 2002 at Campe-Gymnasium Holzminden , he initially did his community service in outpatient care for the elderly in Bevern - Stadtoldendorf .

Limburg then studied law and completed a semester abroad at the Yeditepe Üniversitesi in Istanbul in 2005/2006 . In May 2008, he completed his studies at the University of Bremen with the first state examination in law. The focus of his training was in the field of labor and social law . In 2017 Limburg completed a distance learning course at the University of Hagen with the title "Master of Laws (LL.M.)". His master's thesis dealt with the planned establishment of a European Public Prosecutor's Office.

politics

Limburg became politically active at an early stage. From 2001 to 2005 he was a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in the Holzminden district association, and from 2002 to 2004 he was a member of the state board of the Lower Saxony Green Youth. In 2004 Limburg co-founded CampusGrün, a green university group, in Bremen and worked as its first speaker until 2005.

After he was active as a spokesman in the state board of the Green Youth of Lower Saxony from 2006 to 2007, he was elected to the Lower Saxony state parliament via the state list of the Greens in the state elections on January 27, 2008 , where he was the legal policy spokesman for his group . On January 20, 2013, Limburg was re-elected to the Lower Saxony state parliament. He is a member of the parliamentary group's executive committee, as well as parliamentary manager and spokesman for legal policy, constitutional issues , the protection of the constitution and queer politics of his group.

As spokesman for the Green Youth of Lower Saxony, Limburg was already campaigning against excessive powers for security authorities and against centralized storage of photos and fingerprints.

Limburg was instrumental in driving the fundamental reform of the Lower Saxony Constitutional Protection Act by the Red-Green coalition in Lower Saxony and was the rapporteur for the corresponding draft law.

In 2008, Limburg supported the call by several politicians and lawyers to abolish Section 173 of the Criminal Code, which made consensual sexual intercourse between adult relatives  punishable. The German Ethics Council later also supported the demand.

Limburg repeatedly criticized the observation of the party “Die Linke” by the Lower Saxony Office for the Protection of the Constitution. He also repeatedly criticized the practice of monitoring left-wing groups by the Lower Saxony Office for the Protection of the Constitution under the then CDU Interior Minister Uwe Schünemann.

Limburg called for improved rehabilitation opportunities in the area of ​​the penal system, especially for young offenders, and criticized the construction of the partially privatized correctional facility in Bremervörde by the then black and yellow state government in Lower Saxony.

Another focus of his work is the fight against right-wing extremism.

Limburg repeatedly advocated the initiation of an NPD ban proceedings and criticized the long time negative attitude of the then CDU Interior Minister Schünemann.

Helge Limburg is married and has three daughters.
