Georg Wilhelm August Sell

Georg Wilhelm August Sell (born October 6, 1804 in Darmstadt ; † March 25, 1848 there ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

The son of the Hessian court counselor and court attorney Georg Franz Sell studied law in Gießen and Heidelberg from 1822 to 1826 . In 1829 he received his doctorate, in 1830 his habilitation and was appointed private lecturer. In 1834 he was appointed full professor at the University of Zurich . There he taught Roman law and criminal law . In 1836 he married Emilie Stamm from Darmstadt.

In 1841 he returned to Giessen as a professor. In 1844 he turned down a call to the University of Rostock . With his brother Karl Sell , a professor in Bonn , he edited the “Yearbooks for the historical and dogmatic treatment of Roman law”. In 1848 he died after a long illness.
