description

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe verecunda grows stemless or short stem-forming, is simple or usually sprouts and group-forming. The trunk reaches a length of up to 20 centimeters and is 2 centimeters thick. The eight to ten linear leaves are usually arranged in two rows, but sometimes form almost a rosette . The cloudy green leaf blade is 25 to 35 centimeters long and 0.8 to 1 centimeter wide. There are many small white spots on the underside of the leaf near the base. The soft, white teeth on the leaf margin are tiny and 2 to 7 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple inflorescence reaches a length of 25 centimeters. The dense grapes are head-shaped. The egg-shaped-pointed bracts have a length of 20 millimeters and are 15 millimeters wide. The scarlet, greenish-pointed flowers are on 25 to 30 millimeter long peduncles . They are 26 to 30 millimeters long and narrowed briefly at their base. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of 12 millimeters. They are not narrowed beyond that. Your outer tepals are not fused together. The stamens and the stylus barely protrude from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe verecunda is common in the South African provinces of Northwest , Limpopo , Gauteng and Mpumalanga in grasslands between rocks at altitudes of 1000 to 1900 meters.

The first description by Illtyd Buller Pole-Evans was published in 1917.
