Georg Wilhelm Bauernfeind
Georg Wilhelm Bauernfeind , also Baurenfeind (born November 16, 1728 in Nuremberg , † August 29, 1763 at sea between Mokka and Bombay ) was a German draftsman and engraver.
Life
Georg Wilhelm Bauernfeind was a son of the calligrapher Michael Baurenfeind, who worked in Nuremberg . As a pupil, he followed the copper engraver Johann Martin Preissler , who also came from Nuremberg, to Copenhagen . In 1759 he received the award of the Royal Danish Academy of Art (large gold medal) for his copper engraving Moses near the burning bush and in 1760 was appointed master drawing of the academy.
He was a member of Carsten Niebuhr's Arab journey and died on the crossing to Bombay. His drawings and mezzotints are included in the expedition reports on the Arab trip by Niebuhr and Peter Forsskål .
