Georg (e) Wilhelm von Hopffgarten , since 1790 Count von Hopffgarten , simplified also von Hopfgarten , (born February 17, 1740 in Dresden , † March 8, 1813 in Freiberg ) was an Electoral Saxon Chancellor and Cabinet Minister.

Life

He came from the Thuringian noble family von Hopffgarten and was a son of the Privy Councilor Friedrich Abraham von Hopffgarten . Like his father, he placed himself in the service of the Wettins and rose to the position of Chancellor and Cabinet Minister at the court in Dresden. At the side of King Friedrich August of Saxony , he experienced the ups and downs of Saxon history before the Battle of Leipzig . In addition, he was the capitular of the Meissen monastery and owner of several manors, u. a. in Mülverstedt .

In the Imperial Vicariate, Georg Wilhelm von Hopffgarten achieved his elevation to the rank of count by skipping the rank of baron.

family

Georg Wilhelm von Hopffgarten was married to Christiane Friederike Marschall von Bieberstein (1751–1783). From this marriage two daughters were born. On July 24, 1793, Friederike Wilhelmine married Countess von Hopffgarten (* December 24, 1767 - January 10, 1837) Heinrich Vitzthum von Eckstädt .
