Count Heinrich Carl Wilhelm Vitzthum von Eckstädt (born March 26, 1770 in Dresden ; † October 11, 1837 there ) was a Saxon privy councilor, general director of the Dresden Art Academy and director of the court theater and the court orchestra .

Life

He came from the noble family Vitzthum von Eckstädt and was the fourth son of Ludwig Siegfried Count Vitzthum von Eckstädt (1716–1777) and his second wife, Auguste Erdmuthe von Ponickau and Pilgram (1738–1775) , who came from Ober-Oelsa . An older brother was Carl Graf Vitzthum von Eckstädt .

Like many of his family members, he embarked on an administrative career in the service of the Wettins and was initially secret finance councilor at the Dresden court. In 1815 he was appointed royal Saxon court marshal. As a result, he was also director of the Dresden court orchestra , the Dresden court theater and the court theater in the trade fair city of Leipzig . He owes, among other things, the employment of Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden in 1816, for which he had vigorously campaigned.

Heinrich Graf Vitzthum von Eckstädt was also general director of the arts and the art academies in Dresden and Leipzig until shortly before his death .
