Amandus Karl Georg von Hollen , from 1866 Freiherr von Hollen (born June 13, 1845 in Schönweide , † September 6, 1900 in Kiel ) was a German naval officer , most recently vice admiral .

Life

Hollen was the son of the landowner Julius von Hollen . He entered the Prussian Navy as a cadet aspirant on June 21, 1859 and took part in expeditions on Hela , Gazelle and Gefion .

In the German-Danish War he took part in the naval battle near Jasmund on March 17, 1864 on board the Arcona . He was promoted to lieutenant at sea in 1865 and later made several sea voyages. In 1871 he became a member of the Prussian Artillery Examination Commission . As a corvette captain in 1876 he became the head of the artillery department of the Imperial Admiralty .

When the two warships, Großer Kurfürst and König Wilhelm, collided on May 31, 1878 in the Dover / Calais road, Hollen was the first officer on SMS König Wilhelm. In the accident 269 sailors (out of 487) died; SMS Großer Kurfürst sank off Folkestone. As commander, he commanded the corvette Ariadne in 1880/81 and - after he had been promoted to captain of the sea in 1882 - the frigate Stein from 1886 to 1887 .

In 1883 Hollen became inspector of the naval artillery and in 1889 he was promoted to rear admiral and at the same time to the head of the Hydrogeographic Office . On April 1, 1891, he was made director in the naval department of the Reichsmarineamte and on January 20, 1892 put on disposition . Hollen received on 17 October 1892 the character as a Vice Admiral.

Hollen had married Luise von Stosch (* 1852) in 1874. She was a daughter of Albrecht von Stosch . The district administrator Karl von Hollen was his brother.
