George of Slavonia

George of Slavonia (Latin Georgius de Sclavonia , French Georges d'Esclavonie , Georges de Sorbonne , Georges de Rayn , Croatian Juraj Slovinac ; * around 1355/60? Possibly in Rayn, today Brežice , Diocese of Aquileia ; † 1416 in Tours ) was a Slavonian clergyman and scholar who was a professor at the Sorbonne in Paris . He campaigned for the Croatian language and the Glagolitic script in the Catholic Church.

Life

Georg lived in Rayn, today Brežice , in the diocese of Aquileia (today Slovenia). From 1391 he was at the Sorbonne in Paris . In 1401 he became a doctor of theology there, and in 1403 a professor. In 1404 he went to Tours as a cleric , where he was, among other things, confessor in the Beaumont Benedictine convent. He died in 1416.
