Recanto das Emas , officially Portuguese Região Administrativa de Recanto das Emas , is the administrative region RA XV with 160,000 inhabitants 27 km southwest of Brasilia in the Brazilian federal district . The administrative region borders on Samambaia , Gama , Riacho Fundo II and Santo Antônio do Descoberto (GO) . Recanto das Emas was founded on July 28, 1993. The place name is derived from the typical Cerrado plant Canela de Ema ( Vellozia squamata ) that occurs here frequently .
