Samambaia , officially Portuguese Região Administrativa de Samambaia , is the administrative region RA XII and a satellite city with 220,806 inhabitants in the southwest of Brasilia in the Brazilian federal district . The administrative region borders on Santo Antônio do Descoberto , Ceilândia , Taguatinga , Riacho Fundo , Riacho Fundo II and Recanto das Emas . The name of the satellite city goes back to the stream of the same name in the west of the city.
history
The establishment of the planned city was preceded by the elimination of illegal settlements such as the Invasão da Boca da Mata and Asa Branca. On October 25, 1989, Samambaia was spun off from Taguatinga as a separate administrative region.
