Varjão , officially Portuguese Região Administrativa de Varjão , is the administrative region RA XXIII and a place with 5,371 inhabitants 11 km north of the center of Brasilia in the Brazilian federal district . The administrative region borders on Lago Norte and Plano Piloto . Before the construction of Brasilia, the area belonged to the Fazenda Brejo ou Torto and was in the area of Planaltina (Goiás) . The first irregular buildings were built in the 1970s and 1980s. The name of the place originally called Vila Varjão goes back to a bean plantation in the area. On May 6, 2003, Varjão, which until then belonged to the administrative region of Lago Norte, became a separate administrative region. The crime rate in Varjão is high.
