Santa Maria , officially Portuguese Região Administrativa de Santa Maria , is the administrative region RA XIII and a satellite city with 123,956 inhabitants 33 km southwest of the city center in the Brazilian federal district . The administrative region borders on Gama , Park Way , Lago Sul , Novo Gama (GO) , Valparaíso de Goiás (GO) and São Sebastião . In 1992, Santa Maria was separated from the administrative region of Gama by law "348/92 and decree" 14604/93 "and became an independent administrative region. The place name is derived from the river of the same name, Rio Santa Maria.
