The FC Porto and Real Betis were both national champions and played in only one game - unofficially - for the trophy.
48 years after the first cup, the second competition took place, this time with two games. Benfica Lisbon and Athletic Bilbao met - this time officially. In 1991 the Portuguese champions Benfica and the Spanish Copa del Rey winner Atlético de Madrid met . In 2000, the European Cup winners of the national champions Real Madrid met Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon - this time again in just one final game. Finally, in 2005, the cup winners of both countries Vitória Setúbal and Betis Sevilla met.
