George Adee

George Townsend Adee (born January 4, 1874 in Stonington , Connecticut , † July 31, 1948 in New York ) was an American football player and tennis official .

biography

Adee was named one of 11 players on the 1894 College Football All-America team in 1894 . In college he played American football as a quarterback . From 1916 to 1919 he was the fifth president of the "United States Tennis Association" (USTA), the national tennis association of the USA. He was also a member of the Davis Cup and amateur committee.

Between 1903 and 1909 he took part in the American championships in individual tennis six times. In 1964 he was posthumously inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame for his achievements as an official in tennis.

George Adee served in the Spanish-American War and World War I in the US Army .
