George Albert Frost (born December 23 or 27, 1843 in Boston , † November 13, 1907 in Cambridge ) was an American painter.

Life

George Albert Frost only attended school until the age of eleven and then worked on a farm. He fought in the Civil War . In 1867 he took part in the British Columbia Exploring Expedition to find a route for a future telegraph or telephone line between San Francisco and Moscow . From 1874 to 1876 he studied in Europe. His teacher was Nicaise de Keyser in Antwerp . He then used a studio in North Cambridge for ten years. In 1885 he joined George Kennan on an excursion to Siberia . For several years he had a summer residence in Brownfield ; he painted numerous motifs along the saco .

He had several children with his wife, Adelia Dunham Frost, including their son Paul Roubens Frost, who became a well-known landscape gardener.

In 1874 he exhibited at the San Francisco Art Association. From 1896 he exhibited at the Boston Art Club, to which he belonged. Frost's works are in the California State Library and owned by the California Historical Society. According to Steve Pinkham, Frost Mountain may be named after George Albert Frost. He lived at 53 Orchard Street in North Cambridge, Mass, from 1898 to 1905.
