George Alexander Wilken
George Alexander Wilken (born March 13, 1847 in Menado (Minahassa) on Celebes , † August 28, 1891 in Leiden ) was a Dutch colonial administrator and ethnologist .
Life
The son of Nikolaus Philipp Wilken (1813-1878), was active in the Dutch-Indian service from 1869-80 and in 1881 was head of the institute for Indian civil servants. 1884 by the University of Leiden to Doctor Honoris Causa doctorate, he received in 1885 there professor of language, land and Ethnology of the Indian archipelago. His work deals in particular with the marriage, family and inheritance relationships of the Malay peoples. He made a contribution to researching the Malay peoples of the east Indian archipelago .
