George Henry Ardley (4th quarter 1897 in Langley Park , County Durham , † 3rd quarter 1927 in Weardale ) was an English football player .
Career
Ardley played for Langley Park , a team of local miners, in the 1919-20 season when the club won the Durham Amateur Cup , Durham Hospital Cup and Durham Aged Miners' Cup , as well as the championship at Durham, in a hugely successful season Central League and advanced to the quarterfinals of the FA Amateur Cup (1: 3 against FC Bromley ).
At the end of the season he came as a test player with the recommendation to be the "best outside runner of Langley Park" at the first division AFC Sunderland and in early May 1920 played as an amateur in the runner row alongside Joe Kasher and Frank Cuggy in the First Division against Liverpool (final score 0: 1). For the 1920/21 season he was included as a professional in the Sunderland squad, described by the press as a "perfect scare at goal", and Oldham Athletic is said to have been interested in a commitment. In the course of the season, however, Ardley did not go beyond missions for the reserve team in the North-Eastern League , in the summer of 1921 he moved with his teammate Billy George to the Shildon Athletic club, which was also playing in the North-Eastern League . At Shildon, Ardley was still counted among the most famous players in November 1923.
