George Coulouris

George Coulouris (born October 1, 1903 in Manchester , † April 25, 1989 in London ) was a British actor .

Life

Coulouris was the son of a Greek emigrant and an Englishwoman. In 1929 he made his debut on Broadway in New York. His breakthrough in the film business came in 1941 as Walter Parks Thatcher, the strict guardian and lawyer, in Orson Welles ' classic film Citizen Kane . For this role, Coulouris received an award from the National Board of Review . In the following decades he was seen as a supporting actor in numerous Hollywood films, where he was often allowed to impersonate repellent or villainous characters. In the Doctor films with Dirk Bogarde as Simon Sparrow, Coulouris regularly played supporting roles as a patient or ship's carpenter. In the Agatha Christie film version Murder on the Orient Express (1974) he played a Greek doctor. In total, he was seen in more than 130 productions from 1933 to 1985.

He was married to his first wife, Louise Franklin, from 1930 until her death in 1976. They had two children. In 1977 he married Elizabeth Donaldson, with whom he remained married until his death.
