George Dixon (boxer)
George Dixon (born July 29, 1870 in Halifax , Nova Scotia , † January 6, 1908 in New York ) was a Canadian bantam and featherweight boxer and the first black man to win a world championship belt.
He gave himself the fighting name Little Chocolate , but was often referred to as "The fighter without a flaw". The number of his fights is estimated by historians at 600-800, officially only 153 were registered.
On March 31, 1890 he was the first official black world champion and held the featherweight title with a short break from 1891 to 1900 when he lost it to Terry McGovern .
In 1990 Dixon was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame .
