George Frederick Gyles (born November 17, 1877 in London , United Kingdom , † February 5, 1959 in Vancouver ) was a Canadian sailor .

successes

George Gyles, of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club sailed, won in 1932 in Los Angeles at the Olympic Games in the 8-meter class silver medal. He was a crew member of the boat Santa Maria , led by skipper Ronald Maitland , which finished all four races in second place, behind the only other boat, the Angelita from skipper Owen Churchill from the United States. In addition to Gyles, the crew of the Santa Maria also included Peter Gordon , Hubert Wallace , Ernest Cribb and Harry Jones .

Several times he held the office of Commodore in the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, which made him an honorary member for life in 1953. Gyles was an accountant by profession.
