Harold Alfred "Harry" Jones (born May 8, 1895 in Oakland , United States , † December 24, 1956 in Vancouver ) was a Canadian sailor .

successes

Harry Jones, who for the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club sailed, won in 1932 in Los Angeles at the Olympic Games in the 8-meter class silver medal. He was a crew member of the boat Santa Maria , led by skipper Ronald Maitland , which finished all four races in second place, behind the only other boat, the Angelita from skipper Owen Churchill from the United States. In addition to Jones, the crew of the Santa Maria also included Peter Gordon , George Gyles , Ernest Cribb and Hubert Wallace .

Jones studied at the University of Washington and then worked in the family business that worked with tug boats . He later founded the Vancouver Tugboat Company . Several times he held the office of Commodore in the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, where he was made an honorary member for life in 1953. He died of a heart attack in 1956.
