Ronald Monteith Maitland (born January 6, 1887 in Grimsby , † April 15, 1937 in Vancouver ) was a Canadian sailor .

successes

Ronald Maitland, of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club sailed, won in 1932 in Los Angeles at the Olympic Games in the 8-meter class silver medal. He was the skipper of the Santa Maria , which finished all four races in second place and thus behind the only other boat, the Angelita from skipper Owen Churchill from the United States. The crew of the Santa Maria included George Gyles , Hubert Wallace , Ernest Cribb , Peter Gordon and Harry Jones .

In 1910 he joined the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and was its commodore in 1924 . Maitland initially worked as a clerk at the Royal Bank of Canada before moving to Macaulay Nicolls , a real estate and insurance company. There he rose to partner in the 1920s. In addition, he had worked for the North Arm Steamship Company in the operational business for a time. His brother Royal Maitland was Attorney General of British Columbia from 1941 to 1946 .
