George Herbert Bailey

George Herbert Bailey (born May 17, 1852 in Barnard Castle , Teesdale District , † April 18, 1924 in Datchet ) was an English chemist.

Life

He studied in London and Heidelberg. From 1875 to 1880 he was Headmaster at the Grammar School in Bowes. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of London in 1878 and a Master of Science degree from Tettenham College near Wolverhampton in 1880 . In 1885 he received his doctorate under Robert Wilhelm Bunsen at the University of Heidelberg and then became a lecturer in chemistry at the University of Manchester and, after retiring in 1886, took over many of his lectures from Sir Henry Roscoe . From 1909 to 1920 he was a senior chemist with the British Aluminum Company inKinlochleven . After retiring in 1924, he worked as a consultant for the same company.
