The Eichendorff-Gymnasium Ettlingen (EG) is a high school in Ettlingen . It is named after the poet and writer Joseph von Eichendorff and is the oldest of Ettlingen's two high schools.
history
In 1808 the sovereign Carl Friedrich approved the building of a Latin school in Ettlingen. Due to the growing industrialization, the population wanted a higher middle school . In October 1842 the citizens' committee agreed and the Latin school became a citizen school. In 1896 the Realschulplan was introduced in the four-class school and girls were allowed to attend school for the first time. In 1901 it became a secondary school and comprised seven grades. In 1909 it was renamed Realprogymnasium with Realschule . In 1922 the school moved and found its place in the former Rhineland barracks in Ettlingen. After the lower and upper prima were introduced at the request of students in 1926 and 1927, the school received the title Realgymnasium in the same year . By 1931, the secondary school was outsourced step by step. From 1933 it was christened Hindenburg-Realgymnasium by the National Socialists .
After the Realgymnasium had moved again in 1936, a new building was discussed in December 1952. The new building - a U-shaped building in the Bauhaus style with an auditorium and initially a sports hall - was completed on June 15, 1956 and is still the location of the Eichendorff grammar school today. However, the Eichendorff-Gymnasium was only given its current name in 1972 by a municipal decision.
