Herbert Brereton Baker

Herbert Brereton Baker (born June 25, 1862 in Livesey near Blackburn , † April 27, 1935 ) was an English chemist .

Life

Baker studied 1880-1885 in Oxford , where he obtained his master's degree in 1884 . 1883-1885 he was there demonstrator at Balliot College . From 1885 to 1902 he was Senior Chemical Master at Dulwich College and from 1912 Professor of Chemistry at the University of London and the Imperial College for Science and Technology in London. In 1932 he retired .

He had studied the influence of water on chemical reactions and was an expert on poison gas during the First World War. In 1912 he was awarded the Longstaff Medal of the Chemical Society and in 1923 the Davy Medal of the Royal Society .
