George Howard, 6th Earl of Carlisle

George Howard, 6th Earl of Carlisle , KG , PC (born September 17, 1773 in Castle Howard , Yorkshire , † October 7, 1848 ibid) was a British nobleman and politician .

George Howard was the eldest son of five children of the politician Frederick Howard, 5th Earl of Carlisle (1748-1825) and his wife Lady Margaret Caroline Leveson-Gower (1753-1824), third daughter of Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Marquess of Stafford , and his first wife, Lady Louisa Egerton.

George Howard was First Commissioner of Woods and Forests and later Lord Privy Seal in the Tory government of George Canning and Frederick Robinson, 1st Earl of Ripon . After the Wellington Ministry was dissolved in 1830, Charles Gray, 2nd Earl Gray , headed a new one, which committed itself to "parliamentary reform , reduction of state burdens and non-interference in the affairs of foreign states". Under his reign, George Howard was reappointed Lord Privy Seal.

On March 21, 1801, Sir George Howard married Lady Georgiana Dorothy Cavendish (1783-1858), daughter of William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire and Lady Georgiana Spencer, at Devonshire House in London . Twelve children emerged from the joint relationship:
