George Kitchen mainly created book illustrations and "[...] funny vignettes ", but also maps. He is sometimes associated with Thomas Kitchen , who worked mainly as a map engraver during around the same period of his career , and to whom he may also have been related.
Famous works
- The bust of Ludwig Maximilian Mehmet von Königstreu in mezzotint is one of Kitchin's most famous works. The portrait, probably also intended as a book illustration, shows the valet of the Elector of Hanover and King of Great Britain Georg I. In English the work is subtitled with "Mr. Mahomet ..."; and means one of the two " Turks " in the service of the British ruler . At least one of them can also be found in the miniature catalog published by Williamson in London . Collection of the House of Braunschweig-Lüneburg .
- Mustapha , also a Turk in the service of George I.
