George Manners, 11th Baron de Ros , (* around 1470 - † October 27, 1513 ) was an English nobleman.

Life

George Manners was the nephew of the 10th Baron de Ros , whose daughter and co-heiress Eleanor de Ros had married his father, Sir Robert Manners. Born around 1470, he achieved around 1512, four years after the death of his uncle, that his previously dormant title was awarded to him.

He was married to Anne, daughter of Sir Thomas St. Leger, from about 1490. He had five sons and six daughters with her. When he died in 1513, his eldest son Thomas Manners inherited him as the 11th Baron de Ros, who rose to Earl of Rutland in 1525 .

Political and military career

On September 30, 1497 or shortly before, during an expedition against Scotland , he was of Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Surrey for Knights defeated. In 1500 he accompanied Henry VII to Calais for his meeting with Philip the Fair . Then he met Catherine of Aragon at St. George's Field. He was unsuccessfully proposed for the Order of the Garter by Henry Somerset, 4th Baron Herbert . He was a member of the Peace Commission for Surrey in March 1512, the king's envoy to inspect the army on May 2, 1512 and took part in the siege of Tournai in the war against France . After Tournai had surrendered on September 24, 1513, he fell seriously ill and died on October 27, 1513. His body was later buried in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle .
