George McCulloch

George McCulloch (born February 22, 1792 in Maysville , Kentucky , †  April 6, 1861 in Port Royal , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1839 and 1841 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After the early death of his parents, George McCulloch grew up with distant relatives in Cumberland County , Pennsylvania. He later worked in the iron industry in Center County . Between 1836 and 1850 he was a co-owner of the Hannah Furnace iron works . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He served in the Pennsylvania Senate in 1835 and 1836 .

After the death of Congressman William Wilson Potter , McCulloch was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on November 20, 1839. Since he was not confirmed in 1840, he could only end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1841 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, George McCulloch retired, which he spent in Lewistown . He died in Port Royal on April 6, 1861.
