George Smith AM (born July 14, 1980 in Manly ) is an Australian rugby union player who plays on the position of winger . He is active for the Sanyo Wild Knights and the Australian national team . With 110 international matches, he is the striker with the most appearances for the "Wallabies".

Career

Smith's ancestors come from Tonga , his brother Tyrone decided to play rugby league for the Tongan national team. George Smith played for school and regional selections in Australia in his youth. In 2000 the Brumbies signed him. He made his debut against the Sharks from South Africa in the second game of his first season . With his second appearance a few weeks later, a 66-game era began in which he was always on the field. In addition to this success, he was awarded various prizes for his achievements, including the John Eales Medal and the title of "Player of the Year" 2006/07. He was also in 2005 for the Australian "Team of the Decade" ( team of the decade nominated).

In 2007 Smith took over the captaincy of the Brumbies when the nominal team captain Stirling Mortlock was injured. In the same year he was also the captain of the national team at the World Cup in the game against Canada , in which he also put a try . In 2008 he was the first player to receive the John Eales Medal for the second time.

On the 2010/11 season Smith moved to France for RC Toulon . Just a year later he went to Japan, where he is under contract with the Sanyo Wild Knights .
