George Teodoru (born September 8, 1932 in Craiova ) is a Romanian civil engineer , chess player , organizer and composer .

In the early 1950s, Teodoru began to occupy himself with chess composition. At the age of 18, his study won first prize in Suomen Shakki . As a composer he became Master of Bucharest and Master of Romania, each for studies . He is a student of Faragó and was personally acquainted with Korolkow and Petrović , among others .

Teodoru volunteered as President of the Central Chess Commission for Problems and Endgame Studies and member of the office of the Romanian Chess Federation. In 1971, after founding the journal Buletin Problemistic with Octav Costachel and Anatole Felix Ianovcic , Romania's entry into the PCCC .

In party chess Teodoru belonged to the 1st category in Romania and took part in the Romanian championship several times.

After Teodoru moved to Germany , he stopped chess activities.

In 2007 Teodoru began to deal with chess composition again, for example he achieved the 5th praise at the 2008 Korolkow memorial tournament. Together with Stelian Lambă he founded the chess composition magazine Euxinus Pontus, named after the Black Sea .

Teodoru became a civil engineer for bridges and tunnels in 1956. He was the site manager of earlier Romanian prestressed concrete bridges, such as the Cateasca bridge. He also created the Hotare bridge with concrete foundations as a site manager. He also discovered a new criterion for the freeze-thaw resistance of concrete . In 1971 he moved from Romania to West Germany, where he received his doctorate in engineering from RWTH Aachen University in 1983 . He then worked as a structural engineer, where he was involved in founding the Institute for Technology in the Tropics (ITT) at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences and wrote many scientific articles. He corrected errors in the ACI-305 guidelines and became a reviewer for ACI publications as well as a member of several organizing committees of the ACI symposium. In 1993 he became president of the Engineering Society Cologne . The UN and UNESCO recognized him as an expert in tunnels and bridges and as a construction expert.

On March 5, 2009 Teodoru received the plaque of honor from the Association of German Engineers "in recognition of his achievements in structural engineering" .

Teodoru lives in Cologne .
