George Harry Yardley III (born November 3, 1928 in Hollywood , California , † August 12, 2004 in Newport Beach , California) was an American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 1953 to 1960 .

career

Between 1953 and 1960, Yardley played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Fort Wayne Pistons / Detroit Pistons and Syracuse Nationals . He was the first player to score 2,000 points in an NBA season.

Yardley was voted NBA All-Star six times in a row, from 1955 to 1960 . In 1958 he was called to the All-NBA First Team ; in the same season he led the league in points scored (27.8 points per game).

From 1961 to 1962 Yardley was still active for one season for the Los Angeles Jets in the American Basketball League .

Despite his brief professional career, Yardley was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on May 6, 1996 .

Yardley died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2004 .
