George van Rossem (born May 30, 1882 in The Hague , † January 14, 1955 in Wassenaar ) was a Dutch fencer and functionary .

Life

George van Rossem took part in the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens and in three Olympic Games . In Athens he won the silver medal on three hits in the saber competition, while he secured bronze with the saber team. With the sword and in the saber competition without restrictions, he was eliminated in the preliminary round. At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 , van Rossem competed with the sword and the saber both individually and with the team. His best result was fifth place with the Saber team. In 1912 in Stockholm he achieved bronze with the sword and saber team. In the singles with the sword he was eliminated in the first round. In his third Games in 1920 in Antwerp , he finished with the epee team finished seventh.

Van Rossem stayed in sport in various functions after his sporting career. From 1925 to 1928 he was the third President of the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime , and Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam . He then worked from 1930 to 1946 as treasurer of the Dutch Olympic Committee .
