Georges Duffuler (born October 13, 1925 in Dunkerque , † September 19, 2007 ibid) was a French football goalkeeper .

Career

Duffuler played as a teenager during the Second World War for SC Fives and then for clubs from Coudekerque and Beaune . He learned the profession of glazier and worked as such in Rosendaël near Dunkerque until he was signed by the second division RC Lens in 1947 and thus made the leap into paid football . Despite his small size for the position of the goalkeeper of 170 centimeters, he became a regular player at the club in northern France. In his first year as a professional, at the end of the 1947/48 season he made it into the national cup final, which was lost 3-2 to Lille OSC ; a year later, the player achieved his first national title by winning the second division championship, which also brought him to the top of the league.

On August 21, 1949, he made his debut in a 2-1 win against OGC Nice in the top French division and was on the field in every game during the 1949/50 season. Both in this and in the following seasons Duffuler succeeded with the team in each case of relegation, whereby Lens was increasingly able to establish itself. After he had to fight for the role of the first goalkeeper in the 1953/54 season, he was then undisputed again and belonged to a team that was placed third among the top teams in 1955. A little later he was again temporarily ousted, but managed to return and belonged to the runner-up team in both 1956 and 1957 as second in the table.

Despite the success, Duffuler Lens turned his back in 1957 and signed with league and local rivals OSC Lille. At Lille he was regularly caught between the posts, even if he was not unchallenged; In 1959 he had to accept the club's relegation to the second division. Subsequently, at the age of 33, he ended his professional career after 302 first division games and 21 second division games. Until 1964 he guarded the gate of an amateur club; The father of nine years spent the last phase of his life in his hometown of Dunkerque, where he died in 2007.

National team

In 1949 the goalkeeper made his debut in a game against Luxembourg for the French national team. However , he was denied a game for the French senior team , as he had received several invitations but was unable to travel due to fear of flying .
