Georges Vestris (born June 8, 1959 in Fort-de-France ) is a retired French basketball player .

career

The 2.13 meter tall Vestris comes from the French overseas territory Martinique . During a family visit to Tours at the age of 15, he took part in a basketball trial and was trained by the ASPO Tours association. He made the leap into Tours' first division squad, where Vestris played until 1984. In 1980 he became French champions with Tours.

After he had convinced in the 1983/84 season with 14.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per match, the inside player was signed by league rivals CSP Limoges . In Limoges he stayed until 1990. During this time Vestris won the championship title in 1985, 1988, 1989 and 1990, the 1985 cup competition and in 1988 the European Cup Winners' Cup . In March 1987 Vestris stood with CSP in the two finals for the Korać Cup , but there they lost to FC Barcelona . Vestris achieved his best statistical values ​​in Limoges in the 1988/89 season with 7.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

From 1990 to 1993 Vestris was under contract with the first division club Gravelines, 1993/94 with Pau-Orthez and 1994/95 with the second division club Évreux.

National team

Vestris was a French junior national player, with the senior team he took part in the 1984 Summer Olympics, the 1986 World Cup and the 1983, 1987 and 1989 European Championships. He played 159 international matches for France.
